Standing Committees

Much of the work of the Association is done by its committees and councils. Most committee members serve as volunteers who have an interest in serving their profession.

Community Impact Fund

The Community Impact Fund is a non-profit charitable fund established by EAEA in 2006 to provide up to ten $500 grants per year to non-profit organizations that benefit children who reside in our school district. Our Committee's mission is to reach out to local non-profits to reestablish a positive relationship between the Association and the Easton community.

The CIF Committee receives donations from EAEA members and community contributors and hosts fundraisers designed to raise money to grant to non-profit organizations that impact and help children residing in our school district. The CIF Board, which is a subset of the Committee, receives grant applications and selects the successful applicants. We made 7 $500 grants this year and we are looking to hand out more next year and reach out to the community for additional donations as well. There are quite a few goals we would like to see the Community Impact Fund achieve next year, including:

  1. Continue to award $500 grants to non-profits.
  2. Continue to let community members and EAEA members know what is being accomplished through CIF.
  3. Collect donations from members and other donors.
  4. Let the community and our members know which non-profits our own members work with.
  5. Make an imovie to show to our members and potential donors incorporating pictures from the non-profits we have already helped and the children in their programs.
  6. Encourage more non-profits to apply for a CIF grant.
  7. Organize more fundraisers for CIF like car shows, bake sales, yard sales, etc.

At the beginning of the year the Committee meets about two to three times and then we communicate through email, although if additional members join more meetings will be planned. Whenever grant applications came in the mail all of the CIF Board Members receive a copy and a deadline is set for them to make comments or ask questions about the application.

Member Benefits

Our Committee deals with problems that EAEA members might have in accessing the benefits guaranteed to them by our Collective Bargaining Agreement AND the benefits they are entitled to through their membership in EAEA, PSEA, and NEA. Most of our work, however, concerns medical and prescription benefits.

Our goals for next year include making sure EAEA members are better-informed as to all of the benefits they are eligible for through both PSEA and NEA. Other goals for next year are to add new members to the committee and to find out which benefits are most important to our members for purposes of negotiating our next contract.

The Member Benefits Committee met 3-4 times this past year. I hope to meet once every other month during this coming year.

Professional Rights & Responsibilities (PR&R)

The PR&R Committee's mission is to promote understanding and practice of our Association's Professional Code of Ethics.

PR&R helps members resolve disputes when they would like a mediator. We follow up on concerns related to professional rights and responsibilities and encourage professional interactions. We also share the process of using mediation with the membership, educating members about the benefits of mutually respectful problem solving. The Committee's goals for the coming year include expanding services to include caring and respectful interventions and referrals for members struggling with Mental Health, Substance Dependency or Family crises that impact their professional performance.

The committee currently has only one member, but additional members have expressed an interest in joining this year, so monthly meetings are being planned.

Social

Our Committee's mission is to further respect, camaraderie and positive social interaction among the EAEA membership as a whole by organizing social events for EAEA members.

The Social Committee works together to organize fun social events for EAEA members that give everyone a chance to get together and "bond" in a social setting outside of school. Our goals for next year include having one social at a bar or restaurant and one event (such as a family fun night) every month and having 2 bus trips to a theatrical production, museum, etc during the year. Events that we are interested in planning for next year include a bowling night, picnics, and an award night as well as socials at many different community establishments to encourage all of our EAEA members to come to one, no matter where they live.

Our Committee meets formally once a month, although we have frequent discussions over lunch and by email in the meantime as well.
